SUVA, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The national measles vaccination campaign in Fiji has been temporarily suspended on Friday because of the adverse weather effects of Tropical Cyclone Sarai.

In a statement, Fiji's Ministry of Health and Medical Services said Friday it would later advise members of the public on when the campaign would resume.

The ministry is urging people to avoid non-essential travels to Namosi and Tailevu provinces on Fiji's main island of Viti Levu and also to avoid huge family gatherings.

There are now 25 confirmed measles cases in Fiji.

Since the outbreak was declared early November, around 328,000 people in Fiji have been immunized against measles.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is urging everyone in the target groups to be careful.
