TEHRAN, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday rejected the U.S. claims that Iran is behind recent drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's Aramco oil installations.

"Such claims are baseless and are condemned," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said, in apparent response to the U.S. claims.

"For five years, Yemen has been involved in a bloody war. The Saudi-led coalition, backed by western countries, has committed crimes against the Yemenis," Mousavi said.

"It is natural that the Yemenis and their army react to these crimes," the spokesman said.

He said that the Islamic republic has announced its support to the rights of the Yemenis, but such allegations by the U.S. officials are "big lies".

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday blamed Iran for launching the recent attacks on two Aramco oil plants in the east of Saudi Arabia, which caused major damages and halved Saudi oil output.

Pompeo's tweets came hours after Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the drone attacks.
