"Toy Story 4" continues to lead North American weekend box office

LOS ANGELES, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Pixar and Disney's "Toy Story 4" stayed No. 1 at the North American box office in its second weekend, fending off new offerings "Annabelle Comes Home" and "Yesterday."

The animated family film dipped 52 percent to 57.9 million U.S. dollars in its second weekend, boosting its domestic haul to a huge 236.9 million U.S. dollars. It cleared an impressive 496.5 million U.S. dollars worldwide.

After two weekends in theaters, "Toy Story 4" is already the fourth-highest grossing movie of the year, after "Avengers: Endgame," "Captain Marvel," and "Aladdin."

New Line's summer horror pic "Annabelle Comes Home" followed in second place with weekend earnings of 20.4 million U.S. dollars for a five-day debut of 31.2 million U.S. dollars.

Universal and Working Title's "Yesterday" followed in third place with 17 million U.S. dollars from 2,603 theaters in its opening weekend. The romantic comedy follows an aspiring songwriter who, after a freak accident, discovers he is the only person who remembers the Beatles.

In fourth place, Disney's "Aladdin" generated 9.3 million U.S. dollars in its sixth weekend in theaters, collecting over 305 million U.S. dollars at the domestic box office and 568 million dollars internationally.

Rounding out the top five is Universal and Illumination's "The Secret Life of Pets 2" with 7 million U.S. dollars. The animated sequel has now earned 131 million U.S. dollars in North America.
