JAKARTA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's cycling governing body will send a large contingent of young cyclists to the upcoming 2019 SEA Games, but will also look to deploy as many senior cyclists as possible in events where the country has a chance of medaling, chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari revealed here on Monday.

Indonesia will rely heavily on cyclists in their mission to obtain as many gold medals as possible during the Games, to be held in Manila later this year.

"The senior athletes will focus on securing medals," he said.

Several Indonesian cyclists have a good regional reputation in BMX, track and downhill events, according to the body.

For young cyclists, the chairman said their capabilities will be gauged at the Games.

"The SEA Games will be a try-out for our athletes. This will involve more young cyclists," Raja said.

Previously, Indonesia's youth and sport ministry had said that around 40 percent of the country's delegation to the SEA Games would consist of junior athletes.

The 30th biennial regional multi-sport event is slated to be held from November 30 to December 11.
