TEHRAN, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Iran said on Thursday that it would not hold talks with a United States that does not change its behavior toward the Islamic state, Tasnim news agency reported.

The remarks were made by Keivan Khosravi, spokesman of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, who revealed that a number of visits by the officials of different countries "representing the United States" were recently made to Iran.

"Some were publicized, while others remain confidential," Khosravi noted.

A message of "might, logic, and resistance" of the Iranian nation against the U.S. pressures was sent to all these visiting officials, he said.

"We have announced explicitly that Iran's approach will remain the same as long as the U.S. behavior does not change," the Iranian spokesman added.

"For any negotiations with the United States, Iran's rights should be respected, and Washington should abandon its hostile rhetoric and adopt practical measures," Khosravi concluded.

Iran has been under unprecedented sanction pressures from Washington since U.S. President Donald Trump's unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal in May last year.

In addition, rising tension between the two countries has put them on the brink of military clashes.

The United States has been seeking to seal a new deal with Iran, in order to further curb the latter's nuclear program, ballistic missile development and push for influence in the region.
