SUVA, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Fiji Airways, the national carrier of the South Pacific island country, confirmed on Thursday that the airline's Boeing 737?800 leased from Miami Air last month will resume operating flights from Thursday.

Fiji Airways said that this decision came following a series of safety assessments and after receiving clearance from the Civil Aviation regulatory Authority of Fiji.

The chartered Miami Air aircraft was brought in to operate some flights on behalf of Fiji Airways between Nadi and Auckland, Apia, Christchurch and Brisbane, subject to regulatory approval.

Fiji Airways leased the Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Miami Air to cover some of its schedules due to the temporary grounding of its two Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in March this year after an Ethiopian Airlines' such passenger plane crashed and killed 157 victims onboard.

Fiji Airways stopped the service of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft on Sunday after a Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by Miami Air slid off the runway into a river after landing in Jacksonville, the U.S state of Florida during a thunderstorm on Friday night.
