KIEV, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's outgoing President Petro Poroshenko discussed the financial situation of his country with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde during a phone conversation on Friday, Poroshenko press service said.

During the talks, Poroshenko thanked Lagarde for IMF's continued support of Ukraine's reforms, saying that the support has already begun to deliver positive results and stimulate economic growth.

For her part, the IMF chief has positively assessed the macro-financial stability in Ukraine and the successful functioning of the country's banking system, urging Kiev to push forward the reforms.

Lagarde stressed that the IMF stands ready to develop cooperation with Ukraine.

At the talks, the parties also discussed the situation around Ukraine's largest financial institution, the PrivatBank, and its possible influence on the financial stability of Ukraine.

Last month, Kiev District Administrative Court ruled that the nationalization of the PrivatBank in 2016 was illegal.

The National Bank of Ukraine said it did not agree with the court ruling and prepares to appeal it in the higher court.

In December 2016, the Ukrainian government nationalized the PrivatBank, citing its huge capital shortage that threatened to hinder the stability of Ukraine's financial system.

The IMF is one of the key creditors of Ukraine. Kiev is counting on receiving 2.6 billion U.S. dollars from the global lender by the end of the year.
