AMMAN, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Tuesday launched a campaign to vaccinate the children at the Al Azraq camp for Syrian refugees against measles after three cases were reported there.

Health Ministry spokesperson Hatem Azrui said in a statement that all children in the refugee camp, located some 70 kilometers to the east of the Jordanian capital of Amman, will be vaccinated.

He said the campaign is being implemented in cooperation with the World Health Organization, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the International Migration Organization.

Azrui said that 32 teams are working on the vaccination at the camp, noting that 19,000 children will benefit from the campaign.

He added that the campaign is an immediate response after three cases of measles were reported inside the camp.

No case of measles has been reported in Jordan since 2014. Since the start of the national vaccination campaign in 1979, Jordan has succeeded in getting rid of many diseases, mainly polio.

According to 2018 official figures, there are 31,800 residents living inside the camp, the majority of whom are women and children.
