Macao's cross-border vehicle traffic grows by 3.1 pct in February

MACAO, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The cross-border vehicle traffic of Macao grew by 3.1 percent year-on-year to 373,553 trips in February, with 19,691 trips crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the special administrative region's statistics service said here on Monday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that commercial flights at the Macao International Airport totalled 5,587 trips, up by 16.1 percent year-on-year. The trips to and from the Chinese mainland (2,256) and Thailand (590) showed respective growth of 27.2 percent and 24.2 percent, whereas those to and from China's Taiwan region (1,054) dropped by 2.2 percent.

In the first two months, cross-border vehicular traffic rose by 6.0 percent year-on-year to 830,643 trips, while commercial flights increased by 15.1 percent year-on-year to 11,337 trips.

The DSEC report added that the total number of licensed motor vehicles was 239,345 at the end of February, down slightly by 0.4 percent year-on-year. Light motorcycles (25,647) dropped by 10.3 percent whereas light automobiles (108,262) and heavy motorcycles (97,894) rose by 1.0 percent and 1.2 percent respectively.

New registration of motor vehicles in February declined by 36.9 percent year-on-year to 726, with heavy motorcycles (410) and light automobiles (282) falling by 31.9 percent and 40.6 percent respectively.

In the first two months of 2019, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 31.6 percent year-on-year to 1,954.
