SYDNEY, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Australian top family-owned horticulture business Perfection Fresh, with help from the Queensland state government, will conduct consumer research in China to pan out ways of promoting Aussie mangoes.

A funding grant announced on Friday will allow for broad scale consumer research across two seasons in China, to determine if tastes and habits vary across regions.

"We don't want to just go to Beijing and Shanghai and do consumer research, we want to go to at least 10 top tier cities in China," Perfection Fresh Chief Financial Officer Andrew Edwards told Xinhua.

"The population in Guangdong might like their mangoes a bit more red tinged and a bit more ripe, and the people in Shanghai like them a bit softer and a bit sweeter, it's not one size fits all."

The Queensland government will contribute part of the research cost under their Growing Queensland's Food Exports program.

"This (900 thousand U.S. dollar) pilot program aims to boost Queensland's food exports, delivering jobs and economic growth in regional areas," State Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner said.

"I know it won't take long for Chinese consumers to fall in love with the quality of the produce, just as we all have."

The research represents a significant expansion in the understanding of Chinese buyers of Aussie produce, which Edwards says could have broad impacts for a number of export businesses.

"If there are differences that will make a lot of people think about a lot of products that we send to China," he said.
