SUVA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Fijian government recorded four cases of malnutrition last year, a significant decrease compared to the previous years.

Fiji Social Welfare Department's Child Services Assistant Director Ela Tukutukulevu said Friday that this was a major decrease compared to 23 cases recorded in 2017.

She said it was the lowest since 2012 and urged parents to be more responsible. "We find that some children suffer from malnutrition because they are not being fed well. Parents do not take seriously to look into what children eat."

Tukutukulevu, according to reports on Fiji Broadcasting Corporation news website, said despite the drop in the number of malnutrition cases, they will continue to work with parents to ensure further decrease in this regard.

Child Services have recorded 121 malnutrition cases since 2012.

Malnutrition is a condition that results from eating a diet in which one or more nutrients are either not enough or are too much, causing health problems.
