MOGADISHU, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Somalia military court executed an al-Shabab militant for being involved in bomb blasts which claimed the lives of dozens of people, a court official said on Monday.

Abdullahi Bule, court prosecutor, told reporters that the court convicted Abdulkadir Abukar for his role in masterminding several blasts in Mogadishu, including the deadly blast at Wehliye hotel in March 2017 which killed 10 people and injured 17 others.

"The security forces arrested the suspect in May 2017 and found him guilty as he was driving another car laden with explosives in Hamarwayne district," Bule said.

Bule said that this is the third time that the court sat for the case of the militant, observing that he was guilty of being behind three deadly terrorist bombings in March, April and May 2017.

According to the court, the al-Shabab militant was assigned by his group to explore where to carry out car bomb attacks.

The execution comes barely two days after massive blasts rocked Somalia's capital Mogadishu, killing at least 15 people.

Meanwhile, National Intelligence and Security Agency (NSA) said that they have arrested an IS militant for propaganda in an operation in Mogadishu on December 23.
