KAMPALA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Four Ugandan swimmers on Thursday left for China where they will compete in the 14th World Swimming Championship (25m) slated for Dec. 11-16.

National team captain Avice Meya will lead the team that also has Selina Katumba and the South African based twins Nabil Ahmed Saleh and Fadhil Thabit Saleh.

"We are very optimistic that the team will perform well because the swimmers have now gained lots of international exposure. We know they will face tough competition from the top swimmers mainly from China and United States," Donald Rukare, Chairman of Uganda Swimming Federation told Xinhua on Thursday.

Coach Abel Ddamulira told Xinhua that the team has trained well for over five weeks.

"I am confident our team is in good shape," added the coach.

Nabil who has been performing well this year in South Africa holds Uganda's hopes in the 50m free and 50m butterfly events. Enditem
