NAIROBI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Englishman Dylan Kerr has resigned as head coach of Kenya's Premier League champions Gor Mahia just days after guiding the team in Liverpool against Premier League team Everton.

Kerr's departure also throws the Kenyan champions into disarray as they start their Confederations of African Football (CAF) Champions League campaign against Malawi's Nyasa Big Bullets on Nov. 28.

"With a very sad heart, I have decided to accept another coaching role," said Kerr in a letter to Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier on Thursday. "To [the] players, all I can say is a thank you for being amazing - everyone played their part with fun, enthusiasm, hard work and most of all belief in what I demanded both on and off the field. I hope you continue having the vision I constantly told you and always remember - no regrets."

The Kenyan Premier League is due to kick off in three weeks and Gor Mahia have just started their pre-season training.

"I have today (Thursday) received a resignation letter from coach Dylan Kerr. On behalf of the club, I accept the resignation because he has been good and candid enough... I want to wish him all the best," said Rachier.
