Indonesia to free female member of infamous drug smuggle group

JAKARTA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian prison in Bali was scheduled to free a female member of infamous Bali Nine drug smuggler group next week after she done her deducted jail term.

The Australian national Renae Lawrence would walk free from Bali's Bangli prison after Indonesian authorities deducted seven years from her actual 20 year-sentence in remission program.

Renae has also served addition of 6 month imprisonment to compensate her 1 billion rupiah (about 67,494 U.S. dollars) of fine which she could not afford to pay, head of Bali's Bangli prison Made Suwendra said on Tuesday.

"She will be released on Nov. 21. She already got the remission plus served another subsidiary jail term," he said.

Renae would be the first one of Bali Nine members to walk free from prison after settling legal punishment period in Indonesian prison.

Indonesia legal enforcers have executed to death two leaders of Australia-origin drug smuggler group, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, on April 29, 2015 after they having gone through legal proceedings that eventually handed down death penalties against them.

Another member of Bali Nine group, Tan Duc Thanh Nuguyen, died in June of cancer. He and five other Bali Nine members were sentenced to life in prison by Indonesian courts.

The nine members of the group were arrested by Indonesian authorities in the airport and several places in downtown city of Denpasar in April 2005 during their attempts to smuggle a total of 8.3 kilograms of drugs, valued 2.8 million U.S. dollars, from Indonesia to Australia.
