NEW DELHI, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in India organised functions in the Indian capital over the past two days to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China which falls on Oct.1.

They were attended by a host of diplomats, former envoys, academicians, foreign dignitaries, journalists and people from varied fields in India.

In his address, Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui said that since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, great achievements have been made in the socioeconomic development of the country.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up, he said, noting that with unremitting efforts, China has become the world's second largest economy and over the past 40 years 700 million Chinese have shaken off poverty.

With regard to the China-India ties, Luo said relations between the two countries have improved greatly since this year, and he expressed the belief that China and India can make the world better if they work together.

The guests spoke highly of the progress China has made since its reform and opening-up and hoped to learn more from China's experience. They also expressed their wish that the China-India relations grow steadily in a sound manner.

The events were marked by splendid performances and the ballet dances, performed by Chinese artists, drew huge applause from the audience.
