ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian government on Saturday disclosed moves to support its citizens in South Africa as one national was confirmed dead due to an anti-foreigner violence that affected parts of South Africa over the week.

According the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one Ethiopian has been killed while another national was injured after sustaining an attack as an anti-foreigner violence rocked parts of South Africa that targeted foreigners living in the southern African nation.

The Ethiopian Embassy in South Africa revealed on Saturday that it has finalized preparations to provide support to its citizens who have been affected by the deadly xenophobic attack.

The embassy, which noted the various challenges Ethiopian nationals endured with regard to their well-being and jobs, also indicated that it is working to return the affected citizens to their respective work places.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also on Friday announced a telephone hotline for Ethiopians who need assistance from their embassy.

At least two people were killed in South Africa's main business city Johannesburg as foreign-owned shops were looted in Johannesburg's Soweto suburbs, according to a South African official.

Michael Sun, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety in the City of Johannesburg, said on Wednesday that 15 people have been arrested for murder and illegal possession of illegal firearms.

Thousands of Ethiopians are estimated to live in South Africa both informally and legally engaged in various petty and big scale business activities.
