SYDNEY, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Following his retirement from international football earlier in the year, Australia's leading goal scorer and former English Premier League (EPL) player Tim Cahill, is planning to join the Indian Super League (ISL) team Jamshedpur FC, local media reported on Thursday.

The 38-year-old, who also had a stint in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai Shenhua, ruled out a return to his home country's football league, saying that following his retirement he was planning to live in the U.S.

However Indian media reported that Cahill is currently in talks with Jamshedpur FC to join the ISL, which features other ex-EPL players including Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham and Wes Brown formerly of Manchester United.

The acquisition could be a much needed boost for the club that struggled to score goals last season.

Cahill is a household name in his native Australia with an unequaled 50 international goals for the country's national side, the Socceroos.

A number of Cahill's goals came at crucial moments in Australia's World Cup campaigns, gaining him the status of national icon.

His double in 2006 against Japan made Cahill the first Australian ever to score a goal at a World Cup.

Australian coach Graham Arnold has confirmed on Thursday that Cahill will don the Socceroos jersey one last time when they take on Lebanon in November, in a token appearance giving fans a chance to say farewell to the most successful player the country has ever produced.
