JOHANNESBURG, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The BRICS Business Council have made various policy proposals to the BRICS leaders to consider, including a position to oppose the U.S. protectionist policy, among others.

Sun Xiao, director general of Multilateral Cooperation Department of China Chamber of International Commerce, said this on Thursday while briefing the media in Johannesburg following the BRICS Business Council Forum held on Wednesday.

"We requested our leaders to oppose all forms of protectionism," said Sun.

"Economic globalization has suffered set back with the rise of unilateralism. If this goes on we might see the comeback to the rules of the jungle," Sun said. "We want the BRICS leaders to stay united and oppose unilateralism."

Sun noted that without rules, civilizations cannot achieve economic development.

He stated that they want BRICS leaders to take a stand on the pursuit of rules based open market and reject protectionism.

He said protectionism will hurt the emerging markets and developing countries.

The BRICS Business Council also want the leaders to ease the procession of visas and also address some tariffs barriers to facilitate trade. They want travelling among the BRICS countries to be safe but easy so as not to stifle business.

"We want investment among the BRICS countries to be strengthened," he said. "We also want BRICS to strengthen policy transparency and enhance intergovernmental cooperation."

Other proposals include the cooperation in the standardization regulation to strengthen openness and inclusivity.

"The Business Council also proposed for the promotion of the digital economy so as to achieve inclusive growth," he said.

Another proposal is to increase cooperation in the financial institutions to enhance BRICS capabilities in rendering financial support.

They also want to see an increase in the public private partnership to benefit the citizens.
