TUNIS, July 17 (Xinhua) -- A symphonic concert, with the theme of "Silk Road," was performed Monday night in Tunis, capital of Tunisia.

Held at the ruins of Antonin baths, part of the archaeological site of Carthage, this open-air concert attracted over 300 audience.

Tunisian Symphonic Orchestra directed by a Spanish maestro, and artists from China, Tunisia and Mongolia, offered this musical journey to the audience, who enjoyed the cultural exchanges under the breeze from Mediterranean.

This "Silk Road" symphonic concert in Tunisia is regarded as a good expression of China's willingness to develop good relations with Mediterranean countries, the organizers said in a statement.

Tunisian Culture Minister Mohamed Zine El-Abidine, also presented at the concert, said China's Belt and Road Initiative is a strategic project, resulting from a profound reflection on culture, within the process of deepening the dialogue between nations and civilizations.

El-Abidine said Belt and Road Initiative represents a project for a promising future, a common dream and a desire for sharing, which Tunisia has the honor to participate in.

Proposed by China in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which aim at building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road.
