SYDNEY, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The National Capital District Governor of Papua New Guinea (PNG) Powes Parkop told local media on Wednesday, that the Chinese-constructed Independence Boulevard Precinct will showcase the "status" of Port Moresby and highlight the potential of the nation.

Developed as a part of the Chinese government's international aid program, the 300-meter corridor is valued at around 12 million U.S. dollars and will feature a six-lane road, two five-meter wide footpaths, street lights, path lights, three traffic lights and five nature parks all running from Waigani to Parliament House.

In the past few years, Parkop said China has invested heavily to rehabilitate and build new roads in the capital, in preparation for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leader's meeting.

But after the APEC proceedings have concluded, the infrastructure development gifted by the Chinese government "will be here to stay" according to Parkop, and used for "many other purposes," including recreational parks and amenities for the city's residents and visitors.
