CAIRO, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Football Association (EFA) chairman Hani Abo Rida said on Wednesday that the EFA board will not resign over the 2018 World Cup failure amid accusations of financial violations.

Abo Rida told reporters in Cairo that the EFA is self-funded by sponsorship, adding that Association did not bear any of the cost of the Egyptian team's stay in Russia.

"The talk that a certain country paid our accommodation is inappropriate," Abo Rida said.

The board has been strongly criticized after Egypt, led by coach Hector Cuper, lost all three group matches at the Russia World Cup.

Egypt's sports ministry and parliament will start a probe into what they described as a "humiliating exit and disgraceful appearance" at their World Cup trip in 28 years.

The investigation will include alleged "serious violations" including illicit gains and a lack of "transparency of the ticketing system and sponsorship deals."

Meanwhile, the EFA thanked in a press statement the 62-year-old Argentinean coach, who led the team to the final of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup Finals.

Although there is no official confirmation, the Egyptian media has suggested the Argentinean will not be offered a new contract.

Cuper's current contract expired after Egypt's last World Cup game, which was a 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in the Volgograd Arena.

Since his arrival in March 2015, Cuper has been criticized for his defensive line-ups, a style the Egyptian soccer fans do not prefer.
