SAMARA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay defender Jose Maria Gimenez has been ruled out of the team's final World Cup group game because of a leg injury, the team's coach Oscar Tabarez confirmed on Sunday.

Uruguay will play against hosts Russia in the final group game on Monday with both teams already booking last 16 berths after two wins in the group stage. Monday's game will be for the top spot in Group A.

Uruguay, ranked No. 14 in the world, is making its 12th overall World Cup appearance. The South American country won the World Cup in 1930 as hosts, and again in 1950.
