BRASILIA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Eight Brazilian airports were running out of fuel on Monday as a consequence of the week-long truckers'strike, the state-owned airport company, Infraero, announced.

In a statement, Infraero said that fuel is out of stock in the airports: Sao Jose dos Campos, Uberlandia, Ilheus, Campina Grande, Juazeiro do Norte, Aracaju, Joao Pessoa and Teresina.

It added that its staff was in contact with authorities "to guarantee the arrival of trucks with airplane fuel to the airports."

Infraero also recommended that passengers should get in touch with airlines to find out the status of their flights.

Of 300 flights scheduled at Infraero airports by 8 a.m. on Monday, 13 were cancelled and 45 were delayed.

Other airports, run by private companies, such as that of Brasilia were also limiting operations due to fuel shortage.

In an effort to end the strike, President Michel Temer on Sunday announced a cut in diesel prices for 60 percent.

On Monday, Finance Minister Eduardo Guardia also ruled out any increase in other taxes to compensate for the loss of government revenue from the slashing of diesel prices.

The main trucker syndicates said on Monday they were satisfied with the news, although the blockades did not formally end as they said it would take time to communicate the agreement to all the truckers.
