RIO DE JANEIRO, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Brazil continued to be hit Thursday by the truck drivers' strike, which reached its fourth day.

Brazilian airport infrastructure company Infraero said that plane fuel deposit had run out at some airports, and was merely available for 12 hours to 18 hours at some others.

It said the airport at Sao Paulo, the country's largest city, was short of fuel as well.

Urban transportation was also affected. In Rio de Janeiro, almost half of the bus fleet was not running, and over 30 stations for the city's rapid bus transit system were closed for the day.

In Sao Paulo, the city government suspended vehicle restrictions to ease the impact caused by the fact that 40 percent of the buses were off the streets.

Consumers reported shortages of vegetables in several cities and the prices of the perishables have risen significantly. Over 100 meatpackers suspended production.

The truck drivers on strike blocked highways in over 20 Brazilian states, complaining about the rising prices of fuel, especially diesel, whose price increased over 50 percent in the past year.
