TAIYUAN, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Usually museum exhibits cannot be touched, but not those displayed at an exhibition in north China's Shanxi Province.

Shanxi Museum organized a "touchable exhibition" for a school for the blind in the provincial capital Wednesday so that visually-impaired children could learn about cultural heritage using their hands.

"Unlike previous exhibitions where items are set behind glass, I can feel the actual shapes of them," said Luan Junda, a sixth grader at the school in Taiyuan.

Luan said he is interested in cultural heritage, but every time he goes to a museum, he can only imagine the items based on the introduction given by the guide.

Liang Yujun from the museum's development department said the displayed items are all replicas of the museum collections.

"We selected those with special features and of historic significance to be replicated so that visually-impaired children can touch the items and learn about Chinese history through them," Liang said.

The exhibition is open to the public, allowing all children to learn about cultural heritage, he said.
