SHENZHEN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- When Ms. Li from Luohu District of south China's Shenzhen City abandoned her old furniture near the garbage bin of her apartment building, the property management staff knocked at her door.

According to new city regulation, Li's furniture needed to be dropped at a specific recycling place for bulky waste or she could make an appointment online for a door-to-door service.

According to Shenzhen Urban Management Bureau, starting April 16, individuals or companies who do not comply with the city's new large garbage recycling scheme will be punished, which will be reflected on their credit record.

Shenzhen is China's first city to adopt a bulky waste recycling plan. It established a reservation system for recycling large household garbage in 2015.

The city has 21 bulky waste processing facilities, handling 530 tonnes of garbage per day.
