ISLAMABAD, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani military said Thursday that at least two women were killed and five people were injured in Indian forces' firing along the working boundary.

"India continues unprovoked ceasefire violation and targeted civil population along Working Boundary in village Kundan Pur, Chaprar, Sialkot sector overnight," the army said in a statement.

The statement from the army's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations, said two innocent women were killed and five civilian including three women got injured.

Pakistan Rangers Punjab, which guard border along the Working Boundary, "effectively responded to neutralize Indian Border Security Forces' posts," according to the statement.

Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and the working boundary in 2003. Both, however, routinely accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.

The Pakistani side said on Jan. 15 that in 2018, the Indian forces have carried out more than 100 ceasefire violations along the LoC and the working boundary in just 15 days.

"This unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing from the year 2017 when the Indian forces committed more than 1,900 ceasefire violations," according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
