ISLAMABAD, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa Friday told a United States military commander that "entire Pakistani nation felt betrayed over U.S. recent statements despite decades of cooperation," the military said.

General Bajwa made the comments in a phone conversation with U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander General Joseph L. Votel.

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that "The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools."

Trump further wrote that "They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!"

Bajwa said that "entire Pakistani nation felt betrayed over U.S. recent statements despite decades of cooperation," and unanimous Pakistan's national response reflected the same sentiment.

The army chief made it clear that Pakistan shall continue its counter terrorism efforts even without U.S. financial support in accordance with the country's national interest and shall remain committed to bringing the efforts to logical conclusion along with other stake holders.
