LONDON, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- MPs voted Thursday to refuse a government request to suspend Britain's House of Commons to enable ministers and Conservative MPs to attend the party's annual conference.

By 306 votes to 289, MPs voted against a mini-recess starting Thursday night and continuing until next Thursday to allow Conservative politicians to attend the conference, due to start this weekend in Manchester.

Political commentators said the decision reflected the angry mood in the British parliament following the landmark decision over the enforced shutdown by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

It will mean Johnson and his senior ministers having to make frequent journeys from London to northern England inbetween sittings of the House of Commons.

Usually the British parliament goes into recess to enable MPs to attend the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat annual conferences.

The House of Commons re-opened Wednesday after the British Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the five-week suspension of parliament by Johnson was unlawful.
