Namibian group calls on women to help improve road safety

WINDHOEK, March. 7 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund Thursday called on women from all walks of life to help reduce road accidents in the country, given their obviously better safety awareness.

The call came amid commemoration of the International Women's Day (IMD), which is celebrated annually on March 8.

With regards to road safety, all stakeholders, especially the mothers, aunts, sisters, teachers, friends, daughters and partners of this soil are called upon to rise and improve road safety, said Surihe Gaomas-Guchum, MVA chief corporate affairs officer.

According to statistics from the fund, men in the country are far more likely to lose their lives or be injured in motor vehicle crashes as compared with their female counterparts.

In 2018, 3,562 men sustained various degree of injuries while 205 lost their lives, whereas 2,056 women were injured and 158 died in motor vehicle crashes.
