MOSCOW, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Six miners were killed and 22 others were injured in a bus accident in the Russian Siberian region of Kemerovo, the Russian Investigative Committee said Friday.

It said in a statement that early on Friday morning, a bus carrying a cadre of workers from the local Raspadskaya coal mine fell into a ditch from a height of about eight meters.

The committee has initiated a criminal case on the grounds of violation of the rules in the conduct of mining operations, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence, the statement said.

An investigative team is checking whether the bus was suited for the transportation of workers, its technical equipment corresponded to weather conditions, its driver passed a medical check, and all safety requirements were met, it said.

Earlier this week, the Kemerovo regional division of the Emergencies Ministry issued a statement warning about an abnormally cold weather with temperatures reaching minus 40 degrees Celsius and advising drivers to abstain from long trips.
