KABUL, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The Counter-Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) have investigated up to 24 drug-related cases and arrested 34 suspects in one week, authorities said on Sunday.

"The total 24 cases of narcotics-drug related to 34 suspects, including a woman and a foreign citizen, have been investigated from March 25 to March 31, all over the country," Counter-Narcotics Criminal Justice Task Force of Afghanistan (CJTF) said in the statement.

The suspects were arrested by CNPA and Afghan security organs in 10 of the country's 34 provinces and among narcotics and materials found were over 138 kg of heroin, 458 kg of opium, 541 kg of hashish, 188 liters of liquid chemicals, and 494 liters of alcoholic drinks, said the statement.

The cases were sent to the Central Narcotics Tribunal (CNT), a related court for investigation, said the statement, adding 11 vehicles, and 38 different types of mobile phones and local and foreign currencies totaling about 5,580 U.S. dollars have also been confiscated from the smugglers.

In addition, an appellant court of the CNT has sentenced four defendants to different ranges of imprisonment over the period, the statement noted.
