Indonesia extends military operation to hunt rest of members of IS-linked group

JAKARTA, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian national police has decided to prolong a military operation in Poso of Central Sulawesi province to hunt for the rest of members of a group which has linkages with the IS terrorist organization.

The operation would be lengthened for another three months starting from April of this year to capture seven terrorists who still survive and hide in a deep forest of Poso, national police spokesman Mohammad Iqbal disclosed on Thursday.

"We will extend the operation because there are still seven terrorists who are at large in Poso," he was quoted by Bisnis media as saying.

The militants are grouped in the Mujahidin Indonesia Timur (MIT), which has a linkage with the IS global terrorist group.

The leader of the MIT, the most wanted terrorist, Santoso, was shot dead in the military operation.

Over 2,000 soldiers and policemen have been taking part in the military operation, according to police.

The IS group has coordinated several suicide strikes in Indonesia, including the suicide bombings in the hearth of the country's capital Jakarta, a bush stop in eastern Jakarta in recent years, leaving 12 people dead and dozens others injured.
