JAKARTA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian authorities in Bali Island has arrested two people who had slaughtered endangered dolphin species.

Acting chairman of natural resources conservation center in the island I Ketut Catur Marbawa said on Thursday that Tut Tony and Wayan Mudiana have admitted that they slaughtered dolphins and posted their pictures on social media.

"Now both perpetrators are in custody and we will escort them for undergoing legal process," he said.

The butchers of the species that are on the brink of extinction lived in Tianyar Kangin village of Kubu subdistrict in Karangasem district, said Catur.

The water policemen and the officials from the natural resources conservation center are now hunting for others who had caught dolphins, he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

Indonesia is a vast archipelagic nation and home to over 17,500 islands, which are habitat for several endangered species.
