KABUL, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Six Taliban insurgent suspects were arrested since Afghan Special Operation Forces launched an operation in restive southern province of Helmand overnight, command of special forces said Saturday.

The raid to capture the suspects lasted roughly four hours in Nahri Sarraj district, in northern of provincial capital Lashkar Gah city Friday night, and no weapon was fired during the operation, Operational Coordination Group Afghanistan (MoD-OCGA) said in a statement.

The statement did not provide further information about the arrested, adding that the captured were handed over to concerned departments for further questioning.

Helmand, notorious for poppy growing, is also a known Taliban stronghold.

The Afghan Special Forces killed over 6,100 militants, injured about 3,200 and detained 443 others throughout 2017. They also destroyed 15 militants' command and control posts and 352 bunkers in different places over the period, according to OCGA.

The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than 16 years, has yet to make comments.
