SEOUL, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating stayed high ahead of the opening ceremony of the South Korea-hosted Winter Olympics, a poll showed Friday.

According to the Gallup Korea survey, support for Moon was 63 percent this week, unchanged from the previous week.

It was based on the survey of 1,005 respondents conducted from Tuesday to Thursday. It had 3.1 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.

Moon's support scores have hovered at a relatively higher level than his predecessors since he took office in May last year.

The South Korea-hosted winter sports event helped Moon's support rating run high as athletes of South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) planned to march together under a unified flag at the opening ceremony of the 23rd Winter Olympics set to be held on Friday night.

The two sides also fielded a joint women's ice hockey team, the first unified Olympic team between South Korea and the DPRK.

A high-ranking delegation of the DPRK arrived in South Korea earlier in the day to attend the opening ceremony.
